Colin J Murphy began acting at a young age and grew up in and out of many theaters in the Greater Boston Area. Most of his time was spent training with the Young Company at Stoneham Theater where he was a member of the Resident Youth Ensemble. Here he trained under Caitlin Lowans, Nick Sulfaro, Kate Paulson and Weylin Symes in a Stanislavsky based approach with supplemental classes in Laban, Lecoq, Meisner repetition, Viewpoints and Suzuki.
In Fall 2013, Colin moved to New York City to continue training at NYU Tisch School of the Arts through the Atlantic Acting School. There he began his training in practical aesthetics as well as continued work in Suzuki/Viewpoints under Kelly Maurer, a member of the Siti Company. During his time at Atlantic, he participated in productions of Age of Pie (directed by Andrew Neisler), Romeo and Juliet (directed by Michael R. Piazza), and Reckless(directed by Cynthia Silver). After Completing his primary and advanced training with the Atlantic, Colin transferred to study film acting technique with Stonestreet Studios.
In the year since graduation, Colin has worked on episodes of The Deuce (dir. Alex Hall) and The Deadliest Decade (dir. Bill Kerr). Additionally, he has starred in the short film Capsule which has screened as part of festivals in Boston and Washington DC. He has also acted in featured roles in the short film The Boy and the Balloon and the award winning webseries Stray.
In August 2019, The Boy and the Balloon screened as a part of the NYC Chain Festival and the East Village Queer Film Festival.
